Keymio · Cookie Policy
Effective date: 2026-05-11 Last updated: 2026-05-11 Version: v1.0 (initial public release)
1. What this Cookie Policy covers
This Cookie Policy explains how Aspen Developments LLC, an Arizona limited liability company doing business as "Keymio" ("Keymio", "we", "us", "our"), uses cookies and similar technologies on keym.io and inside the Keymio software service (together, the "Service").
It is part of, and incorporated by reference into, our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. Terms used but not defined here have the meaning given in the Privacy Policy.
2. What a cookie is
A "cookie" is a small text file that a website places on your
device when you visit. Cookies are read on your next visit so the site
can recognise your browser. We use "cookie" in this Policy to
cover similar technologies too — including localStorage,
sessionStorage, IndexedDB, and pixel tags — because the privacy
considerations are the same.
3. How we categorise cookies
We group cookies into four categories.
3.1 Essential cookies
Needed for the Service to work — for example to keep you signed in or to protect against cross-site request forgery. These cookies cannot be disabled without breaking the Service. We do not seek consent for them because they are strictly necessary for a service you have asked us to provide.
| Cookie / storage key | Provider | What it does | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
sb-access-token, sb-refresh-token | Supabase (auth provider) | Keeps you signed in after login | Session + 7-day refresh |
__Host-csrf | Keymio | Cross-site request forgery defence | Session |
cookie_consent | Keymio | Remembers your cookie-banner choice so we do not re-prompt | 12 months |
3.2 Functional storage
Used to remember your in-product preferences — theme, sidebar
collapse state, saved filter selections, pinned slides on Display
Mode, and similar. These are stored in your browser's localStorage,
not sent to our servers, and are tied to the device you are on. You
can clear them at any time from Settings → Privacy → Reset interface
preferences, or by clearing your browser's site data for keym.io.
| Key prefix | What it stores |
|---|---|
keymio_theme | Light or dark mode |
keymio_sidebar_collapsed | Whether the left nav is collapsed |
keymio_discovery_filters | Your last saved Discovery filter selection |
keymio_display_mode_* | Display Mode slide visibility + pinned slide |
3.3 Analytics cookies
We use PostHog to understand which features are used, where users get stuck, and what to prioritise. PostHog sets cookies to count visits, link events to your account, and identify return visitors.
- We do not use PostHog in "session replay" mode and we do not feed PostHog data to any advertising network.
- PostHog is configured to respect the Do Not Track browser header.
- You can opt out from Settings → Privacy in the product, or by declining analytics cookies in the cookie banner on first visit.
| Cookie | Provider | What it does | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
ph_<project-id>_posthog | PostHog | Anonymous device identifier + opt-out flag | 12 months |
ph_<project-id>_posthog_distinct_id | PostHog | Links events across sessions | 12 months |
3.4 Advertising cookies
None. Keymio does not place advertising cookies and does not allow third-party advertising networks to place cookies through our pages. We do not "sell" or "share" personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act ("CCPA") and the California Privacy Rights Act ("CPRA").
4. Your choices
4.1 Cookie banner
On your first visit you will see a banner at the bottom of the page with three options:
- Accept all. Enables essential, functional, and analytics cookies.
- Reject non-essential. Enables essential cookies only. We will
set PostHog to
opt_out_capturing()so analytics events are not sent. - Settings. Choose categories individually.
Your choice is remembered in the cookie_consent cookie for 12
months. You can change it at any time from Settings → Privacy →
Cookies, or by clicking "Cookie preferences" in the page footer.
4.2 Browser-level controls
Most browsers let you block or delete cookies from a specific site or all sites. Useful pages:
- Chrome — Chrome help — Cookies
- Firefox — Firefox cookie controls
- Safari — Safari cookie controls
- Edge — Edge cookie controls
Blocking essential cookies will break the Service — you will not be able to sign in.
4.3 Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Keymio respects the Do Not Track (DNT) browser header and the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal for new sessions. If your browser is sending either signal when you visit, we treat that as a request to disable analytics cookies and we will not set them regardless of the cookie banner state.
4.4 Opting out per provider
If you would rather opt out at the analytics provider level instead of in the Service:
- PostHog — visit posthog.com/privacy#opt-out for instructions.
5. What we do NOT use
- We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, TikTok Pixel, Twitter/X conversion pixels, LinkedIn Insight Tag, or any retargeting / advertising tracker.
- We do not embed third-party "share" widgets that read your identity from another site.
- We do not use fingerprinting techniques to identify you across sites.
6. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time, especially if we add a new tool that uses cookies (for example, a customer-support chat widget). Material changes will be notified to your account email at least 30 days before they take effect and we will re-prompt you with the cookie banner so you can update your choice. Prior versions will be archived at keym.io/cookies/archive.
